The Red Cape – M.S. Rooney

–  Claude Monet, 1869-70 or 1871

It is Monet’s wife Camille
outside in the snow
in the bright red cape.

Later, I imagine,
she will return, she will open
the gray-green windowed doors,
shake the snow
from that red cape
and they will make love slowly
as this painting
of these frosted windowed doors,
of her look back to him
over a forward-turned shoulder
slowly dries
in this gray-green, curtained room.
