The Oboe Will Shine Tomorrow – Devon Balwit

Diligent, you show up
for your life,

hooking one ampersand
to the next,

foot soldier of a foregone
campaign, sounding

your own horn, beating your
makeshift bucket.

You are not above playing
the shill

to spark enthusiasm, applauding
your amateur best, and

inviting others to follow suit.
Eyes fixed

on the conductor, you await your small
contribution,

just a few bars with no repeats;
how you blow.
