Friends Who Are Married – by Jackie Chou

I’ve known those dark eyes
behind the peepholes

the scant black brows
the forehead
now faintly creased
the arms warm as wings
cradling the baby

How lucky is she
the trophy-getter
showered
by your golden confetti

Something I could never endure
those soft hands
that gentle voice
those kind eyes
