Driving North into Warrensburg, New York – Sylvia Riojas Vaughn

I struggle to see the sky.
Mountains on each side
of the Northway block it.
Never had this problem
on the Texas plains.

Infinite stretches
of cerulean
bison clouds.
Could see
towering thunderheads
clear to the Pacific.
In the Hill Country,
endless lengths
of bejeweled
black velvet,
colossal moon.

Here, sunset
seeps deep into
ancient Adirondack stone.
